The controls for SSBM differ from those in SSB in only one way; you can not use the C stick to jump (wheras you can use the C buttons to jump in SSB.)
Modes of Play
Stock Mode - Same as from the original SSB. You have a certain number of lives, and you play until all but one player is left standing.
Time Mode - Same as from the original SSB. You set a timer, and when time runs out, the player with the most points (KOs - TKOs) wins.
HP Mode - Remember Master Hand? This is a lot like that, except now everyone has hit points. You basically play until your HP reaches zero, then you're out of the game until there's one player left standing.
Coin Mode - In this mode, you have to collect as many coins as possible. You can knock coins out of your opponent (25% damage = 25 coins) but they won't lose any of the coins they've collected themselves. Bronze coins = 1, Silver = 2, Gold = 10.
Tournament Mode - You can get eight to sixty-four players to play (two to four per battle.) You get eliminated if you lose. You can play the CPU for characters there are no human players for. You can also save your tournament stats.
Training Mode - This is almost the same as the one in SSB, except you can have more than one CPU at a time.
Homerun Derby Mode - Not much is revealed in this mode, yet. It looks as though you have to hit the most homeruns in a certain amount of time, or the farthest homerun. There is a new character named Sandbag in this mode. It seems as though he's important, but he is in this mode only.
One Player Mode - In this one player mode, you go from level to level, beating each of the characters in SSB:M in their own element.
Bonus Levels - Break the Targets and Board the Platforms are back.
Well, that about does it for Part I.
